Anterior, biarticular head of the quadriceps femoris.

Extension of the knee and flexion of the hip.
Originentry
Straight head: anterior inferior iliac spine; reflected head: superolateral margin of the acetabulum.
Insertionentry
Base of the patella and, through the patellar tendon, the tibial tuberosity.
Innervationentry
Femoral nerve (L2-L4).
Blood supplyentry
Lateral circumflex femoral artery.
Clinical notes
Frequent site of sprinting injury and of apophyseal avulsion in adolescents.
