Muscle of the supraspinous fossa of the scapula, the superior component of the rotator cuff.
Functionentry
Abduction of the arm in the first degrees; stabilises the humeral head in the glenoid.

Supraspinous fossa of the scapula.
Insertionentry
Superior facet of the greater tubercle of the humerus.
Innervationentry
Suprascapular nerve (C5-C6).
Blood supplyentry
Suprascapular artery.
Clinical notes
Its tendon is the commonest site of rotator cuff tear and of subacromial impingement.
