Descriptionentry
The most medial muscle of the anterior compartment of the leg.
Functionentry
Dorsiflexion and supination of the foot; supports the medial longitudinal arch.
Originentry
Lateral condyle and upper half of the lateral surface of the tibia, interosseous membrane.
Insertionentry
Medial and plantar surfaces of the first metatarsal and the medial cuneiform.
Innervationentry
Deep fibular (peroneal) nerve (L4-L5).
Blood supplyentry
Anterior tibial artery.
Clinical notes
Its paralysis causes foot drop with a steppage gait.
